Michelle's Card Club

Here are 2 of the 3 cards we did for Michelle's club earlier this month. The 3rd card was a spinner birthday card but I forgot to take a pic :(

Michelle said she wanted something with leaves that could be used for either a wedding invite or anniversary card, she also wanted the Baroque stamp in there somewhere. This is what I came up with. The girl loves glitter so I knew I couldn't go wrong with the glitter paper.
And she also wanted some kind of Christmas card with either Dasher or this tree from Snow Swirled. My idea was originally planned with Dasher in mind but somehow morphed into a very different card with the tree instead. VERY easy card to make and that white glitter paper is really really pretty in person. The 'dots' on the tree are actually clear Stickles, I guess they just caught the light in just the right way to make them look Pool Party.

Guess who else loves Stampin' Up!?

Apparently Deucalion is as excited as I am when the Stampin' Up! shipment arrives!! No sooner do I put the empty box by the back door than we hear him rustling around trying to find the perfect spot in the box!

It just so happens to be in just the right place for him to protect his food bowl whilst lounging, lol.

The Airman's Creed

I made this card for my friend Dean who left for Air Force boot camp last week. The Air Force symbol is printed on white cardstock and The Airman's Creed is printed on vellum upside down so that the printing is underneath to protect it from getting smeared when people touched it. This is the first time I've printed something so small and detailed on vellum so I wanted to be careful until I knew what it could handle.

The Airman's Creed
I'm an American Airman.
I am a Warrior.
I have answered my nation's call.
I'm an American Airman.
My mission is to fly, fight, and win.
I am faithful to a proud heritage,
a tradition of honor,
and a legacy of valor.
I'm an American Airman,
Guardian of freedom and justice,
My nation's sword and shield,
Its sentry and avenger.
I defend my country with my life.
I'm an American Airman:
Wingman, Leader, Warrior.
I will never leave an Airman behind.
I will never falter,
and I will not fail.

Dean is also the brave soul who stayed at my house for 5 days and took care of my animals while I was on vacation this past summer. That was the first time I've left my dogs for that long and I was so nervous!! I am so thankful to him for taking such good care of those that are so important to me. I wouldn't have been able to even enjoy my vacation if it weren't for him!

Congratulations Dean, on your exciting future as an United States Air Force Airman!

This is what happens when you run errands with me, lol.....

Right after I took this pic, we went into Ikea and ate some Sweedish Meatballs, Alec's favorite. That woke them right back up!

Can you believe there are still places in the US that look like this??

San Miguel Island. Across the Santa Barbara Channel, off the coast of California. Uninhabited except for a park ranger, only 30 visitors allowed per day. It has a campground with only 10 sites, the wind is so strong (up to 50 mph), that you can't even build a campfire. It's often shrouded in fog & is only accessable by ferry, which isn't always running due to sporadic weather conditions. Still, it sure would be an awesome place to visit. Maybe that's how nature has kept this intriguing place so pristine in the midst of the rest of the world being ruined- crazy weather & underwater rocks have made it almost inaccessable by boat, there's only one place you can come ashore due to the high winds & that's only by dinghy or some sort of small boat. It was at one time inhabited by sheep breeders but the last of those left when Pearl Harbor happened. To live 12,000 years ago & wake up to this gorgeous view, I wonder if the people then appreciated it as much as we do now, or if they didn't even notice since everything was more beautiful then...

Alec's Bday Invites

Alec's birthday party invite. When I asked him what he wanted the invites to look like, his only stipulation was that they be 'Bob Marley colors', lol. Unfortunately, not the easiest combo to work with and not very inspiring. I spent most of the time making sure they didn't turn out Christmas-y looking, lol. Alec seemed satisfied with the results & I'm glad the stress of making them is over :)

SU Cardstock- Glorious Green, Real Red and Daffodil Delight. The DSP is also SU, but I can't remember which pack it's from. The DSP ring opens with the card, I was too afraid if I made it a slider the thin DSP would tear when people were trying to slide it back on. SU 2 1/2" Circle Punch, Decorative Label Punch & Daffodil Delight brads.

My little baby boy started high school today, my how time flies!! When I asked him to let me take a pic of him for his 1st day of high school, this was the pose he gave, lol. The little boy who used to say he wanted to be a comedian when he grew up so he could make people laugh is becoming a man. He's still quite a comedian, but now has aspirations of going into the military after high school. If laughter heals the soul, I think he will be a very valuable soldier, in more ways than one. I can look back and list the times I made perfect decisions as a parent, I can also look back and list the times I haven't. The fact that I have a really awesome person for a child is a sprinkle of good parenting, and a dump truck full of luck!! I sure do feel lucky. Even at his worst, Alec is the best thing that has ever happened to me and ever will.

In honor of my sappy side, and the fact that this is my blog to do with whatever I wish and you can't do anything about it (na na na na boo boo), I'm adding a link to a song that's been mine and Alec's song since I can remember....

Brandy and Alec's Song

This is a frame I made for my cousin Rachel's baby shower last Saturday. She's having a girl....guess what her name will be?? lol. I was nervous about making something girly, we don't have many girls in the family so I'm used to making boy stuff. I was pretty happy with the way it turned out. It's amazing how you can start out with an idea & by the end it's totally morphed into something else. This picture doesn't do it justice, it's much prettier in person.

The frame was from Walmart, I love their inexpensive shadowbox frames, I just wish they came in more sizes/colors! The flowers were some old ones I was getting rid of, some kind of mulberry paper. They were off-white with black designs on them, I just sponged right on them. Background paper is Bermuda Bay Pattern DSP (see, I don't hoard everything!), I made the lattice with the SU die cut in Vintage Violet  (I wish they'd bring VV back!!) sponged around the edges of the lattice, and the letters are SU chipboard- the chipboard is awesome, super easy to use, I just sponged over them with Rose Red & then lightly brushed Frost White Shimmer Paint on them, they were too plain with just the sponging. The Shimmer Paint is the SHIT!! I love, love, love it. You will probably be seeing a lot more Shimmer Paint in the future, lol. To finish the frame off, I added two little quilled butterflies to the front. I loved quilled stuff, but I won't be attempting that hobby anytime soon, I don't know if I have the patience!
Since I've been promising for a while to begin this blog, but haven't had time to begin organizing my posts, my first post will be a little cutie stolen from Lauren's blog...with her permission of course.  More to come in the near future....
